Techno classica EssenPRESS RELEASE - Techno-Classica Essen 2023 was more attractive and more international than ever. The enthusiasm for classic automobiles is unbroken.

The 33rd Techno-Classica was once again the focal point of the international classic car scene with more than 1,100 exhibitors, over 200 club presentations and seven official manufacturer presentations. For the opening of the season, enthusiasts, experts, collectors and friends of the cultural asset of mobility met again in the newly designed Essen exhibition halls for the season kick-off.

In the new exhibition halls and two open-air grounds, there were suitable offers for every taste and budget, which were presented with special love not only by the clubs but also by the dealers. The spectrum ranged from pre-1900 automobiles through the year 2000 and into the area of youngtimers, and special interest was shown in the various special exhibitions: the fair organizer S.I.H.A. celebrated 125 years of Renault, 100 years of MG, 70 years of Chevrolet Corvette, 60 years of Lamborghini, Mercedes 600 and Porsche 911, among others.

Milestones from Lamborghini's history were presented around the S.I.H.A. pavilion in the center of Hall 5, while the other anniversaries were celebrated at the brand clubs and manufacturers' representatives in the various halls. The vehicles on offer ranged from MG B or Mercedes SLK for €9,000 to a large number of sought-after classics in the price range up to €50,000 and international rarities worth millions.

The classic car industry is healthy

In 2023, Techno-Classica more than lived up to its claim as the world fair for vintage, classic and prestige automobiles, motor sports, motorcycles, spare parts, restoration and world club meeting. It again gathered exhibitors from 30 nations, who were able to do good business with the visitors who came in large numbers from the very first day. It became clear that the value investment classic vehicle still has international significance. In demand were not only typical classics such as the Porsche 911 or the Mercedes SL types, but also rarities with special bodies and the multitude of sports cars, especially from Italy and France, but also from England and the whole world.

A Pegaso Z 102 became Best of Show

Among more than 150 Concours-d'Élégance participants, the 18-member international jury chose as the world's best automobile a Pegaso Z 102 built in Spain in 1951 with ENASA bodywork, presented in Hall 5 at the Classic Car Service company - for many visitors, Techno-Classica was the first opportunity ever to see such a car in person. The experts from Classic Analytics confirmed: the classic car market has kept its stability and remained predictable even after Corona and under the pressure of the international political situation - this could be the reason why so many visitors made a purchase at the fair.

Brand clubs with imagination

In addition to the presentations by the trade and industry, the appearances of international classic car clubs are traditionally among the main attractions of the Techno-Classica in Essen: Around 200 classic car and brand clubs presented themselves and their services with lovingly designed stands, often with very special and humorous scenes from everyday life. In 2023, the joint stand of the Opel Commodore B Club Deutschland and the Kadett B & Olympia A Club Deutschland e. V. won the international Club Grand Prix in 1987 with the design of a bath day, the centerpiece of which was an Opel Commodore GS with sunglasses worn on the roof and all the accessories of a bath day. This placed them just ahead of the Unimog Veteranen Club e. V., which dedicated its display that year to the beer publishing company of a Münster brewery and the Unimog 401.

This classic world fair is more than just entertainment for the clubs: Peter Schneider, Chairman of the Bundesverband Oldtimer Youngtimer e. V. (Deuvet): "For the stakeholders of the entire classic scene in Europe, the Techno-Classica is the most important annual meeting place. This was demonstrated not least by the personal presence of FIVA World President Tiddo Bresters. In addition to the Deuvet, other classic car interest groups also used the Techno-Classica as a podium, including above all the ADAC with a large presentation of all the possibilities around the classic car.

The automobile as a cultural asset defies the crisis

With a stable number of visitors and an extremely positive course of business for the trade, the 33rd Techno-Classica showed that the preservation of the automobile as a cultural asset is an important and, above all, sustainable occupation with history, even in times of crisis. This was also reflected in several symposiums that addressed topics such as e-fuel, sustainability, restoration and the possibility of driving classic cars in the future. In this context, the association representatives emphasized that the use of classic vehicles has an impact of not even 0.002% on the climate-relevant precursor gases in the atmosphere - classic cars are a hobby that does not have to hide and provides environmentally friendly employment for many sectors of society, trade and commerce.

The Techno-Classica Essen 2024 attracts

Collector and enthusiast vehicles, model cars, art, car literature and autograph sessions, spare parts and information about upcoming events, all this was offered by the 33rd Techno-Classica, World Fair of the S.I.H.A. - which is why enthusiasts of classic mobility are already looking forward to the 34th edition of Techno-Classica Essen in spring 2024.
