car condensationHow does condensation form?

Condensation occurs when water suspended in the air turns into droplets and sticks to your car (especially on the coldest parts such as chrome and windows). 2 factors are very favourable to the formation of condensation: the lack of insulation and the ratio between temperature and humidity relative to the air. This is called dew point (when the temperature drops and the air can no longer hold the water vapour suspension)

Persistent Condensation Hazards

If the humidity persists, mould can form and some parts of your car rust, bad odours can also form, plastics get damaged, carpets rot, etc. That is very common during the cold autumn and winter months because the relative humidity is very high. If you observe this phenomenon in your car or the garage in which you store it, it would be wise to limit the maximum formation of this condensation.

How to avoid the formation of condensation:

- Insulate the garage or the car as much as possible in order to maintain a homogeneous temperature and limit the cold surfaces on which condensation will form. For the garage, consider double glazing and insulation for walls and roof.

- Ventilate the air to ensure optimum quality. A part of humidity can be generated by the temperature of the still-hot engine and auto fumes (but also from DIY work,
extended laundry or your own body heat etc). It is important to let this excess heat and contaminants escape out of the garage. If your garage does not have a window, provide a ventilation grille.

Other ways to protect your car from condensation

- Breathable cover: whether it is an indoor cover or for outdoors, it is important that your cover lets you breathe moisture (or condensation formed after motor cooling
for example). Outdoors, it will be necessary to opt for a cover waterproof but also very breathable.
- Windows open: during long-term auto storage, take care to allow air to circulate within the passenger compartment.
- Inflatable car cover: the best of the best indoors and outdoors outside, it is a real bubble of healthy air that protects your vehicle from external aggressions but also from condensation (very difficult to reach this level otherwise). Indeed, in outside, the temperature of the bubble wall will be very close to 6 the ambient temperature which will limit the formation of condensation.
In addition, PVC is not a cold material like glass would be. As a result, this limits the presence of condensation within the self-inflating bubble. Finally, the fan allows a flow of constant filtered air and therefore of good quality. Discover our cover outdoor car inflatable here.
